When putting braid on spool you mention you put mono backing. Braid will last several years and won’t retain memory on the reel. For years I’ve used 50 & 80# braids. I wind that braid on. Catch more fish in less timeLuke – Just curious- When tying the 75 yard line to line, why didn’t you use an FG knot instead of a double uni?On my heavier tackle reels I like to tie the line off to something outside and walk all the line out( I use the base of my car antenna). Why not just walk out 75 yards when your ready to respool instead of walking before and cut /splice?Monofilament does grip into the arbor, so the best way to combat this is to have a base of mono line on the arbor.So when it’s time to re-splool, there typically is 10 to 20 yards of line that is missing, so having the fixed splice at the beginning will ensure that you always know the exact point where the defined 75 yard (or 100, 150, etc.) Lonchar notes that you should feed the line through the worm guide at the front of the reel.PRO TIPS by DICK'S Sporting GoodsTo prevent line twists and future casting problems, you should want your fishing line to come off its filler spool the same way it goes onto your baitcaster reel.
