However, is it possible to purchase say a graphics card from a slightly newer iMac than my own, like a 2013 or so and install it? If you have iMac mid 2011 Model 12,1 you have to take the logic board out! The card is also compatible to MSI and Alienware. Due to internal space constraints, many iMacs develop an overheating graphics card issue that results in a black/blue/grey screen while the computer is powered on or a screen that shows vertical stripes or columns.

While I would still love to see more powerful CPU's the hardware design limits what can be used until Intel offers lower power & heat version of CPU's which are coming this fall in the Xeon family.Flash the card and the card works perfectly as a genuine Apple card.
