Musings on a Resource Score

I don't like the coin system in DnD so I am trying an original alternative I call Resource Score. The idea is simple, as you progress and increase your Resource Score, you get access to better equipment.

The issue is, I want this to apply to upgrading and getting better weapons based on roleplaying events. Characters unlock "blueprints" or something.
